Episode 5 - Mezcal
Tequila is for shooting, mezcal is for sipping. We explored the latter spirit, whose humble roots stand in irony next to its present status as high end hooch. It is wonderfully smooth whether neat, with a couple of ice cubes, or in an El Camino (the cocktail, not the car). Cheers!
This Week's Recipe:
The El Camino (stolen from Imbibe Magazine)
1 oz. mezcal (we used Del Maguey Vida)
1 oz. rye whiskey (we used High West Double Rye!)
½ oz. Bénédictine
4 dashes Peychaud’s bitters
Tools: mixing glass, barspoon, strainer
Glass: Old Fashioned
Garnish: orange twist
Combine all ingredients and stir with ice. Strain over one large ice cube into a glass and garnish.
